7:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.: Cooking demonstration / Chamberlain High School. Culinary Specialists aboard Navy submarines are considered the best of the best of the cooks in the U.S. military. Today, our Navy Week chef from the USS FLORIDA will be cooking for the students in the culinary program at Chamberlain High School. Bon Appétit!
10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.: Meet the divers / Clearwater Marine Aquarium. Navy divers have one of the most amazing jobs in the United States military. From salvage operations to underwater ship repairs, these Sailors see it all. And this is your chance to see them in their natural environment; under the water. Stop by the Clearwater Marine Aquarium and check them out and learn how they're keep the water safe for the creatures that call the ocean home.
11:15 a.m. - 1:15 p.m.: Tampa Proclamation Ceremony / Lykes Gaslight Square Park. Want a little "jam" to go with your lunch? Then join us in Lykes Gaslight Square Park for a free concert by Navy band "Pride." At high noon, Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio will officially declare 15-21 March, "Tampa Navy Week." This will also be a great opportunity for the people of Tampa to shake hands with some hometown heroes, crewmembers from USS FLORIDA.
6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.: "Pictures you won't see on the 6 o'clock news" / Int. Academy of Design & Tecnology. Photos by MC1 Monica Nelson taken during her recent deployment to Afghanistan will be the focus of a gallery exhibit at the International Academy of Design & Technology. These photos focus on a little seen aspect of the war in Afghanistan; humanitarian relief. From 6-7PM will be an invitation only premier with the exhibit to the general public at 7PM when MC1 Nelson discusses her photographs in the school's lecture auditorium.
